Games freeze when I close my laptop

I play n64 games with my laptop hooked up to my tv via HDMI cable and I can play fine as long as the laptop's open, however as soon as I close my laptop the emulation continues and the audio keeps playing but the game freezes. I have it set so that when my laptop closes the computer still keeps running, and I don't encounter this issue with any other emulator. help would be very much appreciated!

Define frozen, can you still see an image at all/can you move? Have you tried other plugins? Is your screen mirrored or extended?

You can still see the picture but it stands still, also i'm not quite sure what the difference between mirrored and extended is, but as soon as i open my laptop and exit fullscreen mode the game runs fine again. Also i haven't tried any other plugins
