Default Resident Evil 2 screeching sound when there should be voices

Ok so when I first played the game, with each default sound setting I got the same result. With Azimer's HLE audio v2, I still get the screeching. Is there a plugin out there that will turn the screeching into voices?

Use a different audio plugin. Try, googling N64 Audio Plugins, you might get some out dated stuff but I'm sure one of them will fix your problem.

core timing issue

If you're using 1.6 there is still another RDB control that will fix it.

Otherwise play the (E) version for the voices.
