Default "ChangeWindow Exception" error occurring few seconds after going into fullscreen mode

I've not changed anything in the settings besides enabling the advanced options. I was playing SM64 and was about to go into the castle when it did that, and after clicking "OK" the screen went black and wouldn't close the ROM. The only option at that point is to close PJ64. The error's top part reads "Direct3D8". Does anyone have a fix for this?

EDIT: I just realized that I forgot to mention that I was using Windows 10.
