Default Moving Save game file from XP to Vista

My XP computer is not working at all but I am in the middle of a Ocarina of Time game. In safe mode I can access my files and I went in and put the game file on a flash drive that was on my desktop. I open this file on Vista and it is only the blank Zelda game, with no save files at all. So I went back to the XP computer and found a folder called save, and in it was a file called THE LEGEND OF ZELDA.sra. I bring this to my other computer and can't open figure out how to open it with project 64. I was going to put it in the save file on Vista but there is no file visible there.

The operating system doesn't affect how the saves are read. Some things that do:
  • Different instances of a game that are inexact copies of one another
  • Your installation of Project64 (e.g. a wrong, forced save type)
  • The save file itself
The first point suggests making sure that the copy of the game you had on Vista matches that of the one you had on XP.
The second point suggests reinstalling Project64 on your Vista machine.

The third point is important. The original file you had copied from your Flash drive may have been overwritten as blank or empty, with no game progress. The original file may still have had all of your progress, so before testing any fixes and trying things out, always copy your original file over the one installed to the Save folder for your installment on Vista.

if you have vista UAC turned on it will redirect save folders to the user directory. So you will have to copy the file there.

GAH! What would I do without Mr. zilmar.

I type longer posts for practice, since a few users post questions and don't come back. Though that could be my fault.

After all, a prototype is like a conversation with yourself. See I haven't forgotten all of your teachings.

Project64 doesn't work properly with UAC Virtualisation. save files go missing, plugins fail to save, or even worse cannot be selected at all.
